Marin Kitka Community Choir

The MKCC is open to all voices, genders and ages.

There are no auditions required to join the Kitka Community Chorus. However, it is preferred that interested singers have the ability to match pitch and sing harmony parts in tune. Previous experience with Eastern European folk singing is not required. The ability to read music is helpful but not required, as music is taught using both aural and written methods.

Rehearsals will include vocal warm ups and exercises, work on vocal technique, ear training, ensemble singing, breath management, and performance skills all through the lens of learning songs from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Geographical, language and cultural context for each song will also be featured.

Materials provided will include printed music (word sheets and score), voice part and pronunciation recordings for each song, source recordings, access to digital files, and more!

Master singer guest teachers will make appearances! So far teachers have included Nadia Tarnawsky (Ukraine), Tzvetanka Varimezova (Bulgaria), Astrid Kuljanic (Croatia), Kristine Barrett (Kitka), and Carl Linich (American Georgian song expert).

Performance opportunities will be available during each 8-week session.

If you have any questions or wonder whether this ensemble is right for you, please contact Kelly Atkins.

Please note the health and safety protocols at the bottom of this page.

Parking at the rehearsal venue is free, easy and plentiful. Also the space is easy access with a ramp leading to the front door, and no stairs are required to access the rehearsal space.
